Onsite
Located in my home in Northwest Georgia (Catoosa County), I have a dedicated office/study/library on the main level of my home. I can offer students their choice of seating arrangements – either in a traditional student desk, on a bean bag chair with a lap desk, on an exercise ball (if they feel the need to bounce/require extra sensory input whilst learning), or whatever way they feel most comfortable. As a neurodiverse tutor, I am happy to offer the most flexible, nurturing learning space possible for my students. I am all about acceptance here, and supporting our differences!
I have wheelchair access to the house via a ramp (with handrails) in my garage (I am a wheelchair user myself, so accessibility has been and continues to be carefully considered). There is a full ensuite bathroom in the learning space as well. Safety is my top concern, so if there are accessibility needs, I would ask that the parents/caregivers visit to make sure that your student’s needs can be met here – and if not, help me to understand what I might do to make it accessible for them. If I can make adjustments, I certainly will.
Adjacent to the study room is my living room with comfortable seating, a television, and high-speed internet. I also have an assortment of books in my study from which to peruse whilst waiting on your student. I do have pet birds in the living room, so if those are a concern, we can discuss some other waiting area options – I have a lovely covered back porch as well as a rocking chair front porch – both of which might be viable options on nice weather days. I live on a relatively quiet lane with no thru traffic. You might catch a glimpse of one of our resident area deer, turkeys, rabbits, or squirrels! There are also other places in the house where you might be more comfortable (I have an upstairs exercise/meditation room), or you may prefer to wait in your vehicle. Alternatively, you may drop your student off and return to collect them later – we can work it out. 😊
Online
For my online students, we can decide together, which software would best serve our purposes. I prefer Zoom, but I can also consider other software if it will better suit your needs. I do ask that we have the use of a student-accessible email account in place (for students under 18, I would prefer it to be parent-managed), as I would want to use it to send/receive assignments and/or formal feedback. Google and many other services provide free email accounts, and I am happy to assist in setting that up if need be.
I use quality lighting and sound tools in my learning space, as well as dual cameras (one for me, one for the desktop or whiteboard, depending on what I am using during the lesson).
For both onsite and online students, we can discuss how your student learns best and I will endeavor to arrange my sessions accordingly. I like to individually customize education plans for each student.
Learning is not a one-size-fits-all experience!
